Massive-size-hitters Inc. has just zoomed across the internet with its hiring stores. Insomniac appended job openings to various departments, including animation, design, art, production, programming. You name them. Should the Internet ever cease being the Internet, some quickters shall form a mess.
Let’s get down to the main points. The studio has shared a career site link in the hopes of calling in some talented candidates to join the company. With such a name, this could be a golden opportunity for any hopeful seeking to enter into or up the ladder of game development. But….what is everyone chattering about? What is supposed to be their next project?
The fact-finding gamers are just about certain that the job hunt means the going on another Spider-Man game. Others are hoping for Ratchet & Clank II or a Resistance remaster. And then there stands Wolverine, and with Insomniac being an upcoming Marvel project, firm details have fans drooling. One user joked, “I can respond to every comment asking about Wolverine if you need,” which gives you an idea about how much a wildman solo opus has taken over people’s consciousness.
However, there are now plain old bears in the party. Things went downhill fast from the reply section of the tweet, with several calling the studio “woke.” “Stop your woke nonsense and just make good games” was fertile ground for more fighting. Supported by others, however, a user clapped back: “Being LGBTQ+ is perfectly natural. It’s not woke because it’s a natural human thing.” Yikes. The discussion became so filthy that even the janitorial staff was called in to muscle, with someone joking about applying to be a “janitor with ideas.”
Yet another, strangely particular, critique appeared. One remarked that “Insomniac ain’t the same studio I grew up with,” which means the studio is now very different from how it was in its early days. Another one claimed they put “DEI hires” (diversity, equity, and inclusion) first, which… okay? Meanwhile, in Spanish, a fan implored for a Venom game, proving that gamers might speak different languages, but they want what they all want.
Amidst the noise, a few more peaceful voices came out. One observer noted the irony of Insomniac hiring while other studios are laying off workers left, right, and center. “This is the second game studio I’ve seen with multiple job openings,” was said to shed light on the industry’s shaky job market. And, of course, at least one person wanted to know if the studio was making a Spider-Man VR experience. Priorities, I tell you!
So, bottom line: Insomniac Games is expanding, and it really should excite you unless one is glued to the woke debates or clamoring for a Resistance 4 announcement. Wolverine, Spider-Man 3, or whatever else is going to be big in any case. Your opportunity to be part of it is right now if you’ve got the skills. Just stay clear of the Twitter replies unless this wild ride is your favorite thing.
