The Cyberpunk 2077 community was buzzing with excitement at the news from CD Projekt Red, something not in the storyline that they wished for. The studio announced its new update: Update 2.3. Originally, it was to have been released by June 26, the studio says, but it’s now delayed, with no further date set. The utmost that has been said is, “We’ll update you soon,” with a vague promise that it would be nearly the same scale as Update 2.2.
What happened anyhow? It was made quite clear by the tweet from CDPR: “We initially hoped to put Update 2.3 in your hands on June 26. However, we’ll need some more time to make sure that we are happy with it.” Classic dev move-delay right now, avoid massive disaster later. At least they’re honest about it.
Reactions? Mixed, of course. Some players like H__Alrajhi are calling in support: “Nah take your time we know the longer you take the better it gets.” Others, meanwhile, are less happy. Brendon Burns: “Almost nothing was actually added to the game. Now they’re delaying something that is ‘similar in scope’??? This is ridiculous.” Oof.
Then there’s the crowd that plays on Steam Deck. Angel96s21 implored: “DON’T FORGET STEAM DECK please.” And CTRLton joked about yet another playthrough, “Another update, another new character playthrough.” We’ve all been there.
But congratulations should go to the real MVP—Luis, who is just happy that his mods will once again be working: “It’s fine I didn’t want my mods to break yet.” Priorities, people.
And then there’s speculation from many corners. Like SenseiRain, who jokes: “We getting multiplayer now?” (Spoiler: Probably not.) While TruGamingLegend takes a more serious stance: “We need new game plus. That’s the only update we deserve.”
More eyes on them for sure. Every subsequent update after the messy launch feels like a do-or-die occasion. But players are mostly agreeing on this one: Better late than broken.
So what now? No idea. CDPR is being tight-lipped but said they’ll announce the details real soon. For now, the mercenaries of Night City will just… keep on waiting.
