Well, Bungie surprised Destiny 2 players with an announcement that The Nine will grant any Guardian participating in their Rite free 2020-era weapons and armor. Pretty nice, huh? Some of the players are understandably thrilled with the new gear, whereas some of them… let’s say they are not exactly throwing any bouquets at the Tower.

The powers that be from the official Destiny 2 Twitter announcing free weapons and armor from the Rite of the Nine social space- just got online, have to appear at least, and log in for them. But, whatever new goodies are okay, the player reaction has been mixed, somewhere from excited to irritated, to confused.

The good: some Guardians are really happy. One player named Revive tweeted, “Finally, my pinnacle boots!” Another player said, “Woah so cool.” And yeah, free gear is cool—which is especially true if these are weapons that you never managed to grab the first time around. And then… clatter.

Server issues on the number one position. IchigoxRukia FOREVER didn’t hold back: “I like how they add all this cool and awesome stuff but they refuse to fix their f servers.” Ouch. And they’re not alone. Destiny 2 server issues have been these problems that altogether, disconnects, lag, and downtime sometime just turn PvP and even PvE into a gamble.

But the bigger problem is the more barren excitement for the players—a call for more than just stale gear. Hades, one of the more vocal critics, had a rant toward Bungie, saying they ought to launch new classes and new skills alongside Armor 3.0. “If the new season doesn’t introduce new career branches or additional skills, I’m certain Armor 3.0 in Destiny 2 won’t be very appealing,” they went on. Others agreed, clamoring for fresh content, not tired cry-for-help loot.

PVP players are especially bitter. “Why don’t you guys steal some ideas to fix PVP?” Terry Gardenier said bluntly, while another player, Commander, suggested just giving up on PVP: “Literally just switch to PVE bro PVP is down the drain.” Wow.

Now here’s a pre-order dilemma. Since the season DLC is approaching, some are reluctant to commit to it. Hades chimed in again: “Many players are currently watching and waiting, and they haven’t pre-ordered the new season DLC. Especially after the impact of the ‘marathon deaths,’ players have already lost trust in you.” Ouch.

Wasn’t everyone looking at it and thinking it’s a gloom caravan? Some are just happy to finally have something new to chase, no matter if it’s aged gear with a fresh repaint. And let’s face it—whether it’s behind a fresh coat of paint or overdue for one, help me out here, the current Destiny 2 loot grind is just addictive.

Those are the words that come out, though: Good win. So, many fires have yet to be put out by Bungie. Server stability, PVP fixes, meaningful new content—there’s the wish list. Until then, it’s back to enjoying the 2020 throwback gear for the Guardians—to be straight with you, they sure ain’t gonna fix everything.

Many are on the fence about the next season, and you’re definitely not alone.
