Bungie has just released a new update for Destiny 2, with the Prophecy dungeon as the featured activity in the Rite of the Nine event. Players are rewarded for finishing all three difficulty levels of Expedition, Eternity, or Ultimatum–each of them presents a different perspective to the challenge. While some are elated with the new content, bugs, intolerable behavior, and illogical decisions have made others quite angry.

The official Destiny 2 Twitter account threw a little tease at all with the dungeon’s return: “Which do you think you would go first?” Answers ranged from going straight into the Ultimatum for the extra challenge, to staying with Explorer to either help new players or just get used to the mechanics. GG3_xyz states, it’s “Ultimatum mode for me, bring on the challenge! 😎.” Twist92331616, conversely, admitted to shying away from the harder difficulty: “Explorer. Cause I can’t be arsed to do the others and like to help the newer people.”

But for a large number of players, it really hasn’t been smooth sailing. A lot of complaints have been made about triumphs resetting or not counting toward the total score. One intrepid soul shared on Twitter,”My collectables got reset,” prompting a wave of responses from many others having to face the problem. Pyrothesis1 added some details about how the engrams triumph suddenly disappeared, leaving them stuck at 3/6 progress despite having completed all the criteria for it.

And there came hot debates regarding the changes that took place with the dungeon itself. ATOM_C_ laid it all out, calling the changes to the Rainbow Road sparrow section “so ass” and questioning why loot distribution still favors farming the first encounter over full runs, while GoodMorning1911 asked outright: “why did you guys do that to the sparrow section?”

Technically, those problems continued well on for the aggravating player base. “I can’t play destiny more than ten minutes without getting a runtime error,” vented suxwithpvp, with Trenchlighter throwing down yet another roadblock, as they were locked out of quest progression due to a bug stopping them from taking the lift in the Realm of the Nine.

Looking at gameplay and in stark contrast with the way the player base evolved its tactics for tackling the hardest encounters in the dungeon, RonMcDon95 was looking for help with the final boss, leading to a wave of guidance from fellow Guardians. FIERCEDEGAMER detailed Ultimatum encounter mechanics and methods of approach, while Simmons360 delivered tips on taking on immune bosses and timed sections.

Hiccups notwithstanding, the wins are already out of the bag. iDyNazTyy went on and on: “Ultimatum done ✅” while JellybackJoe declared it was “by far the most fun” among the three featured activities after the tweaks to the dungeon, even if it was the easiest one.

Bungie’s Rite of the Nine event seems to be a mixed bag, with emotions running high between excitement and frustration when facing new challenges and faces old bugs. For the loot, for the bragging rights, or just to help the younger Guardians, the return of Prophecy is keeping the Destiny 2 community ever busy-whether for better for or worse.
