Before an actual launch, FromSoftware shipped the very first patch for Elden Ring Nightreign, and now the community has started conjecturing about what this means for them. The update primarily says it is to provide “gameplay and stability improvements” to ease the initial entry into the limpid Limveld world. But why patch a game that doesn’t even officially exist? Does it say anything about the state of its release? I think we should jump right in.
What a totally weird, forced pull. Hours before the official launch of Nightreign, the users found the patch rolling out, with mixed reactions. “Honestly, whole time patching the game before it even drops; maybe airs some complaints of issues; idk,” Chimera joked in a tweet. On the other hand, Panickin’ Skywalker chimed in: “A worrying sign. It’s like they barely even play tested the thing themselves.” Oof.
Patch notes themselves are far too vague-“gameplay improvements,” “tying down stability improvements,” et cetera, yet still allow room for speculation. But the community is not focusing on stability alone. Crossplay is a hot-button issue. Tom asked bluntly, “What kind of modern multiplayer focused game, available on all platforms doesn’t have crossplay these days?” It’s a really good question. The lack of cross-platform support for Nightreign in 2025 does feel like such a tragedy, especially for a game that lives on multiplayer chaos.
Then came the modding issues. “Will my past Elden Ring ban (for modding, not cheating) carry forward to Nightreign?” Father nervously asked. There hasn’t been any answer but that is a valid concern-and a very hot topic indeed. RandomMishaps is hype about the rumors of a “real BR mod” soon, while others like Erfgs45, who apparently tested the CNT, called the experience “ASS,” saying, “they didn’t even test it.” Yikes.
Such confusion over launch timings caused such a mess. Henceforth, some players like Kolt admitted they got the release timing wrong because Steam’s mobile app is quite unclear. Meanwhile, Sarrow Voltsy’s from Canada lamented, “Lucky I get to play it at 10 pm tonight… everyone is playing it earlier😂🥲.” Time zones, man. So rude.
With drama come hype. Empiric screamed off into the distance, “Gotta love the commitment. Can’t wait to get home and play this bad BITCCCHHH,” an expression that perfectly fits. Junior Duran defended Nightreign, dubbing it a “B project” that tries new things in co-op and with eight new bosses. “Fromsoft has a track record of delivering great experiences,” they said, putting to rest some fears of microtransactions.
Abdulwahed ran into issues on PS5 being unable to get password matches working, and Fume lamented about proper balancing needing to be done for solo mode because “most of the fights are not 1v1.” Some very valid critique indeed for a game trying to focus on multiplayer.
So what’s the decision then? Nightreign pre-launch patch, as an operation, to some screams polish and to others full-blown panic. The lack of crossplay hurts, and the modding scene is already stirring the pot yet FromSoftware’s cult laurels aren’t worrying-anyways. If the studio nails Day One stability, the chaos of Limveld may just be worth all the drama.
Now, to invade some more worlds, if you don’t mind. Or crash again. Exactly the same thing.
