Another infamous tease has been pulled by Epic Games, and it is provoked much talk in Fortnite communities by the mention of the Apple-themed “Pie Patron” skin. It was supposedly encrypted in the game files since 2020, on the speculation that Epic and Apple might have settled their legal issues someday. Now that the two companies are really working along together again, one would like to wonder if this skin might end up finally seeing daylight.

The discovery was made by a data miner/sleuth named @blortzen, who also broke the news. The excitement among the players is just tremendous; some are rejoicing, some disbelieving, and some were already bickering about whether it would count as an “OG” skin or not. Typical Fortnite community chaos.

The whole idea of Pie Patron is not yet fully understood. With the files encrypted, all the community can squeeze out as a clue is the name, which hints toward an apple pie-themed outfit. A chef, perhaps? Or an actual walking talking pie? Who knows. Epic seems to be very much into food skin themes (Peely, anybody?), so it could turn out to be another laff riot along with the rest.

Of course, the timing is funny. Epic vs. Apple in court was the biggest drama to hit the gaming industry in recent years, with Fortnite getting booted off from the App Store and all that. So with the lawsuit in the past, now is the perfect time for Epic to make a cheeky reference to the whole affair. A tribute, a poke? Or maybe both.

Now all the players start debating whether this means the original Apple skin (Tart Tycoon) shall be kept exclusive or whether the other shall be put back alongside the new skin. Some are begging for an “OG style” for those who already own them, and some are just happy that they are getting a new variant. Then another usual crowd will scream, “I don’t care, where’s Rick from Street Fighter?” Priorities, eh?

Should this skin ever drop, it is going to be a crazy sell. Fortnite players love food cosmetics, and this one has a strong link to a pretty major moment in the gaming industry. Plus, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to run around dressed as a sentient pie?

There has been no official announcement about the appearance of the skin, but considering the files allow it to be in the game, moodily, it is just a matter of time. Maybe it hits the Item Shop as soon as this week or maybe Epic is saving it for a bigger event. Whatever way it turns, keep your eyes peeled.

And so, for all of you clinging to the thought of “OG’ skins coming back and getting mad at the possibility…” maybe take a deep breath. It’s just a pie. A pretty stylish, maybe even encrypted, pie.
