For a minute, it was all happening—the Fortnite Star Wars event. And, if one missed it-well, then just imagine how the whole internet is collectively losing it over a moment where Palpatine supposedly air-guitared and blocked blaster shots from an entire lobby. The original tweet by ShiinaBR said, “imma be real the event should have ended right here because bro did NOT survive all those blaster shots 😭💀;” and that was really all anyone needed to say.
The clip has Palpatine calmly blocking about half a million blaster bolts with one hand while casually blocking with the other. You know, like some sort of inter-galaxy Fortnite ping-pong match. And the gamers, well… they had thoughts. Some stated, “Bro had plot armor,” while another returned fire with a thunderous, “You clearly don’t know him.” Things got so heated one would have imagined the options were to either deep-dive into serious Star Wars lore or cross into Fortnite.
Evanader_17, meanwhile, tried to calm things down: “Well, Palpatine is one of the strongest Sith Lords in Star Wars, so him blocking all those blasters makes sense (yes I know nerd alert).” Then others started wondering, in disbelief: “Why didn’t someone hit him from the side? Are we all stupid?” A completely legitimate question, I must add.
This basically cracked that floodgates wide open. Artys_Missives posted the clip of Palpatine doing his infamous spin from Revenge of the Sith, captioned “Imagine if he did this instead,” and honestly, that would have been way cooler. Meanwhile, GB10FN accused him of outright cheating: “Bro had hacks enabled. Literally blocked all those bullets 😭😭😭.” Too legit to quit.
Now, shockingly, a fair amount of people were just fine with it because, well, it’s Palpatine. “There’s a reason he’s the Emperor,” cluttered by Hctrlopez_art alongside a clip of said Emperor laughing like a madman. And just between you and me, if any hero was to no-sell an entire squad’s worth of firepower, it would be the guy pictured who got resurrected twice in the movies.
Still, the event managed to dry some of the players’ throats. MistaBrandoVA joked, “Superman should have flown in and punched him across the goddamn galaxy instead of Hope doing whatever she did with the rift orb.” And honestly? Same.
And whether Palpatine’s survival was hype or just straight, you know what is for sure: It’s Fortnite that got people talking. And at least it cast in hilariously funny memes. Excuse me if I am going to go watch that clip once more-hour after hour-of him spinning like a top while deflecting lasers. Absolute cinema.
