After the launch of the new trailer by Epic Games, excitement pours out of the world. To the best of our knowledge, a colossal crossover has never been conducted at Fortnite before, so the Internet is split between those clamoring with excitement and those expressing disbelief at the news. Are we talking about just a reloaded map, or is Fortnite really going to have some Squid Game challenges? The teaser mostly leaves that a mystery, though we do know it’s going to be thrilling.
The trailer, though relatively short, showed us some chilling visuals from Squid Game with sinister music partly playing in the background, masked guards marching around, and, of course, those slight trademark green tracksuits. There has yet to appear an indication of Gi-Hun, leaving many players to wonder, “Where is the main guy?” What little was shown was enough to set tongues wagging in social conversations. One player humorously encapsulated the general mood: “I shat my pants.” Moods.
The comments have been split between excitement and skepticism. On the contrary, some have already claimed theirs: “I will win? I want VBUCKS”? 💀 commented FUAVASYK IS BACK OR QUIT, along with several others asking: “Is this for the reload map or a creative map?” Ghostf4ce1 probed, with sassy✨ practically repeating the question, “Are they actual games or just the reload map?”
And the music. Emor said, “creepy ass song lol i like it tho!!!” So did I. It is unsettling just like the show. Yet some are doubting the whole affair: matszukoo sighed, “If only the skins weren’t ahh💔.” Maybe that’s a valid criticism. The skins may not be for everyone.
The bigger question: is this reloaded mode or a proper Squid Game experience? SpiralTheFirst pleaded, “It can’t just be reload right??? Right???” And honestly, this is the question we’re all asking. A reload map would be cool, but imagine if Fortnite really brought in the murderous games from the show. Red Light, Green Light with a Battle Royale twist? Chaos.
The hype is already in full effect with players, “June 27 going to be on fire,” said TSC143_. Whether that is the launch date or mere speculation is something that still needs to be confirmed; one thing for sure though, this collab is going to be huge.
From PopMetaXX, there comes an extremely random comment: “Shina you must know this is gorbanza.” I can’t put a finger on what it means, but the tone seems dead serious—maybe a secret code? Or just hype. Either way, the Fortnite x Squid Game crossover has already started arguments, memes, and a whole lot of excitement.
What’s next? More details hopefully. Epic loves surprises, and this one definitely looks like just the opener. Now; will this be for an actual full game mode, or will players just have to witness this debacle as a creative mode twist? Awaiting players with bated breath. As Tjay put it, “Let’s gooo.”
One thing is for sure: Fortnite sure does keep their audience engaged and hyped. From Travis Scott concerts to Marvel crossovers and now Squid Game—how do they stop? If indeed the trailer is criteria for the chaos that will unfold, then lucky us.
So we’re off back to soul-crushing loops of that teaser until June 27. Or till Epic unveils another colossal event. Whichever arrives first!
