Two new Star Wars skins landed in the Fortnite Item Shop amid very polarizing sentiments by the player base. The “Apprentice Rey” design comes with an alternate outfit, “Darth Side Vision,” designed so the user can choose whichever represents the light side or the dark side of the Force. But some prospective buyers have decided to pod Epic on basic Star Wars nomenclature, asking why it is called “Dark Side” and not “Darth Side.”
The skin represents Rey’s dark-side persona, equipped with a yellow lightsaber and Sith visual design. While many must-have sym-to get a Rey-side villain, others were complaining for missing details like black lip gloss and yellow eyes that could have made the skin more complete. One user even said that fan concepts did way better. Yikes.
Yet others were entirely unrelated to cosmetics. The replies to Fortnite’s tweet are utter disarray, ranging from urgent demands to complaints and various requests. While some users beg for Naruto to come back to the shop (yet again), others campaign for the return of Clone Wars characters, such as Ahsoka, Rex, or Cody. There is an entire account dedicated to spam “BRING BACK SNAKE EYES” under every Fortnite post. Grind on, huh?
Competitive players are more into gameplay balance; there’s more than a bit of moaning about lightsaber spamming in the final circles and a request to get a nerf for Force Push attacks, alongside those complaining when solo modules are matched with trios. Then, of course, another is on to ban the “game found” notification. Priorities.
Another in-game dispute the Star Wars collab is stirring are in the ethical realm. One guy wondered if it was actually an ethical issue to be using dark side skins since these guys are just, you know, space dictators going around committing genocide. Another one questioned him: “Thanos killed half the universe in Marvel, so maybe chill with the overanalysis.”
The usual store updates got flipped with a volley of requests and criticisms. Some are already speculating what else might join in soon, like a Dark Falcon glider or an unmasked Kylo Ren. Others are just happy that Epic didn’t split it into two separate skins (side eye, Spider-Man variants).
Whether good or bad, this new Rey skin is a testament to how much these crossovers still give visibility to Fortnite. So, in all the chaos and couture, one thing that is for sure: this game is anything but quietly played. So, if you’ll forgive us, we gotta go spam “bring-back-Street-Fighter-skins” under their next tweet.
