The first team in the history of MSI 2025 that qualified for the event was G2 Esports, and that triggered a cascade of reactions from the League of Legends community. The announcement came through the official Twitter page of the team, where what was either a celebration or just a standard team picture was posted—the picture showed BrokenBlade, Caps, and Hans Sama, plus all the coaches.
The tweet read: “Your FIRST MSI representatives,” garnering the attention of thousands within hours of posting. And, as usual, the replies were where the real show went down—from heartwarming congrats to savage burns.
One user @locomoco commented jokingly, “Ok, at least you can take T1 to dinner. Be home by 10 o’clock.” On the hills of sarcasm-tone was @Guenni_Highlighter, who said, “And the First who will leave MSI :)”—a tongue-in-cheek reminder of G2’s not-so-perfect history in international events.
Not all were being sarcastic. People such as @basedhutao really could not contain their emotions over the news and exclaimed, “YOU DID IT OMFG 😭😭😭😭 MY LEC TEAM IM SO HAPPY FOR YALL.” In contrast to that are fans like @moonfairy_xxiv, who spoke of their desires for an MSI reunion of G2, T1, and BLG: “Now I think you are the 5-leaf clover for BLG and T1. Hoping you three a reunion in MSI 🫶🏻💕 Congrats for qualifying MSI 🖤🖤
Rightfully so, any esports announcement shall be fertilized with the arguments of the regional rivalry. @zzz56565 tried to dismissing G2’s achievement: “Who cares, minor regions not representing shit. We all know these europoors are losing. Waste of screen time.” Ouch!
Things took a funny turn when a Korean fan @wave__mori tweeted the Korean phrase, “우린 파트너야 운명이야, 그렇지?”—a nice little nod to the brand of the long-held rivalry-cum-friendship shared by G2 and Korean teams like T1.
Talking of the players, in the comment section, BrokenBlade seemed to have taken all the spotlight, with one fan even posting a meme of him looking smug. That, of course, is not even mentioning the coaching staff, who @Ashguin1 jokingly attributed to having won by means of “the capybara book,” whoever or whatever that is.
With MSI 2024 around the corner, G2 has its work cut out. Can G2 break the image of being just the first team to qualify by putting on a huge show and really running the show, or will they drown in mounting pressure of late, as some critics already warn?
One thing is sure, though; the LoL community will keep an eye on them for either a celebration or to pity them. That, in itself, will be entertaining.
So hold tight, guys—the MSI is on the horizon, and G2 is front-lining. Whether they’re the villains or the good guys in this story is yet to be seen—they’re definitely the ones to watch.
