The multiplayer beta for Gears of War: Reloaded came to an end amidst controversy. The official Twitter account for the Gears of War series had given us a farewell through the ending of a beta that let us investigate the remaster, assuring the community that a full launch would occur on August 26; however, not all of the members are interested in celebrating.
I can imagine some liking this throwback feel of Classic Gears. User Str8steez15, saluting the original players: “For everyone that actually played Gears 1 in 08/09, thank you. All these other shit comments don’t matter. Can’t wait for August.” Others candy-coated the movement with harsh words and described the gameplay as outdated. lcallaghan70 clearly going off: “Absolute garbage movement. Super clunky even compared to UE… not sure why this clunky, slow-ass game is being remastered again.”
Some problems were brought into this beta. For instance, there were complaints about the inconsistency of how weapons behaved; the Gnasher shotgun being a poor example. JulsJRJunior shared, “It gives me PTSD from Ultimate Edition where it just chooses when it wants to one-shot.” Sniping was different according to Terrariiia in week two as opposed to week one. After the first game, a group of players uninstalled the game (looking at you, 1Donruga).
But hey, some players appreciated the experience. For instance, SHiNExTiME said, “Thank you for allowing us all to be a part of the beta testing.” JayRaTheRu admitted, “I haven’t had so much fun gaming in a long time.” So, the game has supporters; unfortunately, they just are not loud enough to drown out negativity.
One of the biggest cracks: Where are the beta rewards? “Why was there no beta rewards?” RGH06 roughly asked, meanwhile, others, like lilgflexin1, jokingly threw in “beta weekends every weekend till drop.” Requests soon began raining in, with fixes for team balancing (Terrariiia) and attention toward pre-launch improvements-average player wish list.
Then there are those who just want Gear 3 back. “bring back gow3, that’s all we need!” said iBiuBiuBiuBiu. Honestly, mood.
What comes next? Now that the full launch is officially dated for August 26th, players will be keeping close tabs on Release Day to evaluate how many problems they feel the devs have fixed or only further accentuated since those days in Beta. Is Gears of War: Reloaded going to keep its promises, or is it going to be just another “should’ve just remastered Gears 3” type? Time will have the last word. But one thing is definite: The members of the Gears Community remain passionate and opinionated.
We’ll see you on the battlefield, soldiers. Unless, of course, Gnasher acts up.
