It’s been a goldsponge for hype in the survival game community ever since the giant announcement dropped today: Grounded 2 is entering Game Preview on July 29! And yes, on day one, it will be available through Xbox Play Anywhere and Game Pass. No money; just pure backyard mayhem along with friends.
Grounded was Obsidian‘s crazy take on survival-a SpongeBob Honey I Shrunk the Kids kind of thing with spiders and much less of Rick Moranis. Players loved it, though difficulty spikes meant some rage quitting(yes, I’m looking at you @LocalWvlf). Now there’s a sequel on the horizon and really, there’s no turning back.
The reactions were mixed but mostly hyped. Some went full @BobertLevert-type excitement: “LETTTSSSSD GOOOOO OH MY GOD BRO THANK YOU XBOX,” treating it almost like their personal GTA 6 moment, while @chyld989 was a bit disappointed that it’s just another Game Preview. Still, hype real-to-the-max. @pinaka_av15 called it “absolutely insane,” and honestly? Same.
Shifting the conversation into the art style: the spicy take came in the form of @Skippy_Tielle stating, “This art style looks like it identifies as non-binary.” Uh… okay? Elsewhere, @alemove91 had a simple statement of “Obsidian carrying Xbox,” and honestly, with how stacked their lineup is, you can’t really argue.
Now, not everyone is sold, though. Giving PlayStation’s recent State of Play a bit of shade was @Oblivionisback, “The only good game was 007.” Console wars by 2025, really? Meanwhile, @BudsNGraps just wants Horizon 6. Sorry mate, not today.
But the big question is: will it fix pacing issues from the first game? @LocalWvlf threw out there that Grounded 1 seems to just have stages where it spikes up in difficulty even if you’re keeping upgrades up. So one can only hope Obsidian irons that out this time.
Talk about Game Pass. @CQ861429750 joking about “go for the free games after surviving,” which is lesser said the better. Now seriously, Game Pass day-one is a massive win for any co-op heavy game this one is. @pixelluma has already stated, “Can’t wait to explore the wild with my friends!” Same, Pixel. Same.
What’s left? Probably more details. The official tweet link will direct you to a deep dive, but for now, go ahead and put the 29th of July on your calendar. Grinding for survival, co-op tomfoolery, or just to see if Obsidian can polish over a track record that’s already quite golden-whether that is your jam or not-Grounded 2 is shaping toward being a must-play.
Also @neppahtitel, happy early bithday. This would be an awesome present.
