Since this otherwise Guerrilla Games message to the LGBTQIA+ community had the internet set aflame on the occasion of Pride Month, the responses on the tweet ranged from love to backlash and a whole lot of anarchy: wishing developers, families, friends, and players Happy and Safe Pride.

Story is: Guerrilla goes rainbow with a rainbow picture saying, “Happy #Pride everyone! From the entire Guerrilla team we wish everyone of our developers, family, friends and fans who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community a wonderful and safe Pride!” Straightforward enough? Well, the internet had thoughts.

Getting some sun. Some well-wishers and players responded in positivity with rainbow emojis and chants like @MisterG_VP’s “Happy Pride Month ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜.” Others kept it short and sweet @sleepsector_VP, “Happy Pride! ✨🏳️‍🌈❤️,” while @DEX_exiled also chimed in with some supportive noise, saying, “Happy pride month! 🌈😁💜🇧🇷.” So yes, there was support.

But then, suddenly, here comes the negativity flowing in. Opening in the meantime were antagonist replies such as that of @Mikenootherlike, “Yeah, keep making games for the alphabet community. See how long you stay in business you’ll end up like naughty dog. Nobody wants this shit.” Oof… Others argued: “Stop bringing politics into video games,” @bucketFanboy said, as if celebrating Pride is some kind of political agenda.

And then, we have the… unoriginal insults. @WhyOhWhy187 was like, “Happy grooming month!!,” and @AresPs5 followed up with, “Degenerates! I will never buy another game that you make ever again!” Real subtle, guys. Meanwhile, @silva12_hugo responded with a bunch of puke and angry emojis, “🤮🤮 game that is good nothing, but the month of pride cannot be missed 🤬.”

Then, you get the legendary gamer-level complaints. “Where’s Horizon 3?” said @malakaddo, “Stop with the Pride BS and start working on Horizon 3.” @Melfisx followed with, “No one cares about this shit anymore…” as if acknowledging Pride means the devs aren’t coding fast enough.

Well, the spoiler is that Guerrilla was neither announcing an official feature nor asking for anybody’s participation. Just plain stuff: Happy Pride. The backlash being so massive, one starts wondering why some really get angry at a rainbow.

Back then, some players resisted that hateful sort of cry. @Fuzzy_Reasoning clapped back to negative comment with, “You could just let other people have stuff they like too.” Simple. Effective.

And now almost international takes. @BwabtS then said in Arabic, “We Arabs hate that 😡,” while @Mohamed_MedG asked, “What pride being gay? U can’t even tell deference between a male and a female.” Yikes.

Amidst all chaos, some continued cracking jokes. @_BattleTits_ joked: “I just like to paint rainbows on my face. I didn’t know it meant something to the Old Ones.” In contrast, @BelMaslany lifted spirits with a cute pic of “Little Aloy” saying hi.

So, what innit learning? Either way, Pride posts in the gaming universe have somewhat unorthodox choices faced by their player base. From inclusiveness are welcome by some; others rage about the so-called “woke” culture; and some want just some news about Horizon 3. So, while innocent enough alone on their own, the Guerrilla tweet has turned into a battleground for the wider representation issues in games.

At any rate, studios like Guerrilla ain’t gonna back off for continue standing for the LGBTQIA+ players—and is really good. And Pride ain’t going anywhere, like it or not. Well, I mean, the more love they pour into gaming, the better it will get. So now, back to waiting for that Horizon 3 trailer.
