The new Mythic Steel Death Reaper Weapon Skin’s been one of those big ticket items in Season 17: Powered Up! The community is now divided, half calling it fire and the others naming it an outright disgrace. Blizzard just splashed a nice big barrel of edginess onto Overwatch 2 players-the perfect treat for any Reaper main.

To look at the skin, the two shotguns bear that grim reaper indication, with smoke coming out on reload, while a sinister-looking blade emerges for melee attacks. It also has a very elegant flourish animation, changing based on the customization of the skin. Spktra claims there are four other things that set this skin apart from regular weapon skins. Some could not be persuaded.

The likes of nalluni blamed the design for “pure dog 💩” citing lack of colour variations while trashing the design. ZantlerTV says the mirrored colours make it an eyesore but the flourish animation redeems it somewhat. Then sabbatelli720 says it’s easily “one of the best mythic weapons” and fits perfectly with the edgy feel of Reaper.

The debate then took off, EliteClassMage firing back at the critics, “F it, let bro say stuff, my fing god. People like u pisses me off.” And then CorbeeCrawk and nalluni went back and forth whether it’s actually good or just hyped too much. The typical dirt of the Overwatch community.

Not everyone was caught up in the drama, though. Players such as LaKungJin could barely wait to get their hands on the skin, saying they had “been obsessed with it since the design came out.” Zhng116988 is asking Blizzard to reveal the next mythic skin.

Then we get totally random complains about the voting system, from leonhart08146549, and, oh, some demands to nerf Freja (???). Always fun with Overwatch players.

One thing stands for sure: whether you love or hate this, this mythic weapon skin is making a big noise. And now that Season 17 has started, much more is on its way. Hence, if you are a Reaper main or just a collector, maybe it’s time to check whether this skin-that looks like something straight out of a bad joke-is worth the grind.

The rest of the season? Well, maybe Blizzard will manage to surprise us again. Maybe with a nice Rammatra dance emote? (It’s been a while, J4c_kl is still waiting). Or maybe, after all these years, they’ll finally take some of XyleriusKachino’s hacker complaints seriously.

That being said, this update is another fiercely divisive update for Overwatch 2. But come on, that’s what makes it enjoyable, right?
