The competition is pretty straightforward; simply respond to the tweet naming your favorite hat of Sea of Thieves, and the winner will be chosen at random next Monday at 3 PM UTC. With that done, yet another fairly run-of-the-mill contest turned into an instant fashion show as players flaunted their most nice-looking—or downright cursed—hats. From the Black Dog Hat all the way to the Ghost Hat, the choices are just as diverse as the sea itself.
With Player Burying Ben standing for the Seafarer’s Bandana, he remarked, “The piratiest feel you can get.” But on the flipside, Cosmic Archivist laid full support behind the Ocean Crawler Hat: “Crabs all the way!”-For why not? We cannot forget the Eastern Winds Ruby Hat that SharpiesGOW favors and the Legendary Seafarer Hat that is second to none, according to Seaofthieves4vr.
The real drama now comes in-the debate of whether Rare should actually implement a Shovel Hat to complete the set. HansSprungfild and Buryin Ben began warring sentiments, where Hans implored, “Shovel hat when?” and Ben answered, “We have the shovel pegleg, finish the set, Rare!” That very matter of heated discourse is what uniquely entertains the Sea of Thieves community.
A select few decided to call out the classics, including the Ferryman Hat (shoutout Justin, who also desires a Ferryman Eye of Reach; Rare, take note). And then there’s that mystical one: the Hat of Cursed Bone that HansSprungfild says “has always had a place in my heart.” And there’s Mel the Servant’s Flame, who is all for the Hat of Cursed Bone.
But not everyone chose that one. Some picked trackless, going back down mystery-laned, with Ryan, AKA Old Ferryman Hat, calling it “so clean,” up until the point it was literally an exclusive controller. Then there is the Black Dog hat, which it seems Captain Doubloon has sworn to wear for years—now that’s commitment.
Of course, no pirate talk is worth its salt with a little anarchy. Enter Invee in all-caps, screaming, “PEAK HAT‼️‼️🔥🔥🔥🗣️🐴,” with a screenshot of what could only be described as a fever dream. And let us not forget the Hat of Unfeasibly Glorious Fame was named as a favorite by many because really, who doesn’t want a hat that yells its own name at you?
Other selections are a little niche. “Disgraced Order of Souls headband is the best for turning in those emissary flags!” claims SoupiestKarma15, whereas SirFenrisulf keeps it dark and edgy with the obsidian bone hat. For those that prefer to keep things classy, DaanTheDuck finishes things off with a top hat.
But the question stands: What does this say about Sea of Thieves players? They are a very fashion-forward bunch of pirates that take their headwear very seriously. Crowns, bandanas, or hats that look like startled fish-there’s nothing limiting the imagination of this community.
And hey, if you’re still unsure about which hat goes with you, just remember-there’s no wrong choice. Unless you pick something boring. Then, overboard you go.
