Tomorrow, June 24, a tremendous occasion for the Bravely series, will witness its special live stream event at 11am PDT/7pm BST. The said stream intends to wow crowds with gameplay from the new Bravely entry, hang out with fans, and gift some prizes. But in between, gamers have started talking with their wishlists and complaints in the replies.
The official Square Enix tweet cheerfully teased the event alongside stream links, but fans have been dubious. The replies instantly burst into rather interesting mixes of anticipation, doubt, or brash demands. Some are asking for remasters, some demand releases on other platforms, and the louder voices are listing grievances on censorship and physical editions.
One of the most persistent demands is for an uncompromised physical release: Several replies, including one from @penguindayzero, read, “Best way to celebrate would be to remove the censorship and release a real physical version.” Others like @rafapb86 are concise yet absolutely firm: “Full game on cartridge, please!” Clearly, the matter regarding partial physical versions, which in some instances require additional downloads, continues to sting.
So here comes the censorship debate. Several users, including @animefan454, conditioned their willingness to purchase on whether Square Enix would remove the censorial “changes”: “Please remove the censorship and then I will buy the game.” The Bravely series has been hauled over the coals before for such alterations to character designs and dialogue, and it appears people are still not ready to forgive.
Now, not everyone was throwing shade: some, like @CoreyHikari, were happy for greater access: “Hope this makes its way to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in the future.” Then @MikeusesAether unleashed a torrent of sarcasm: “Lmao I almost hoped you guys were ready to announce Bravely Second HD, but I guess it’s way too soon ahahah.”
The wildcard entry from @McMarz1113 completely ignored the Bravely series: “When is the Final Fantasy 9 anniversary stream where the remake is announced?” Classic gamer move—always looking ahead to the next big thing.
Mixed reactions still abound, but the Bravely series and its fiercely loyal fans crave more content. Will Square Enix respond to those calls in the stream? An answer remains to be seen, but one thing we can be certain of: they will retain their rights to speak their mind.
So, if you are a fan of turn-based RPGs or character-driven stories, or if you just want to see what Square Enix is up to, the stream is something you should tune into afterward. The reactions, though, will not be quiet for long because this fan base has opinions.
Perhaps the Square Enix Spotlight live could solve some of those demands or see a totally random announcement for the Bravly series. Whatever happens should be all sorts of mad fun or at least very loud!
