Hold onto your controllers, folks. With the leaked Squid Game emote, supposedly, the internet is breaking. Yes, truly! At the mere thought of this iconic Netflix survival show being inducted into the gaming scene, or even a whisper of such reference being passed around, the Internet began to stir. Next came a mad rush on the part of gamers trying to ascertain what this tweet really means, described only with a fire emoji and a link.
The leaked emote, called “Traversal” in the tweet, appeared without any context: no game mentioned, no developer creds, no justifiably chaotic emote. I suppose I could say that this is quite apt for an unpredictable show like Squid Game. G-rated G-Game creations more gory than the world is ready for have given rise to far too many memes, challenges, and recreations in the real world (God forbid); why not a bio-game?
Here we go with an interrogative: For which game could this set of moves be? Is it for Fortnite? Call of Duty? Or is a small indie developer just fishing for the bait? Nothing has come forth in the thread to address these questions, and that just makes the leak all the more unusual. Gamers love a good secret to unfold, and this is one wrapped snugly in speculations.
If a big-name game like Fortnite, then that would not be the first time that the battle royale giant dabbles in pop culture references for its emotes. From “Orange Justice” to the floss dance, Epic isn’t shy about quickly hopping on whatever is trending at the time. And Squid Game? Not just trending. The emote would actually be hysterics as the character dances to the creepy doll’s version of “Red Light, Green Light.”
On the other side, it sure would be some sort of Trauma-inducing whiplash if this one was for Call of Duty. I mean think about Squid Game dance moves being busted out in a grim war zone? Hilarious, right? Probably not the place for it. But hey, absurdity is what gaming has become nowadays.
Then again, it might well be fake. That is one hundred percent a possibility. Leaks come and go, and some are nothing more than wishful thinking. But the fact that it’s called ‘Traversal’ suggests mere movement—maybe an emote where your character hops around like in the show’s glass bridge challenge? Or worse, one where they trip and fall in a big way. The possibilities are endless, and so is the chaos.
The sheer day one will lose their damn minds if this actually turns out to be a biggie. Made for a Squid Game crossover, with such colorful big colors, very scary masks, and the haunting score-the way of making gaming deserving of the slightest hint of attention: either a full proper collab or at least a quick wink. The hype train left a long time ago.
Stay buoyant because, if this leak is true, games will bring a wave of Squid Game presence sooner than we ever expected. Or, if it turns out to be a misfire, at least it gave us something spicy for the day. So, anyone willing to volunteer for Match One?
