A tweet from Ubisoft announces that the servers for The Division 2 are scheduled to go for scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, June 10. Downtime would have started at 9:30 AM CEST (3:30 AM EDT, 12:30 AM PDT) and was expected to last for about three hours. The official account claims it to be a routine server maintenance, to user’s displeasure; the replies are filled with frustration, memes, and desperate pleas for bug fixes.
Hmm, so what exactly is going on? Well, Ubisoft has not gotten into specifics beyond “infrastructure updates,” which could literally mean anything from optimizing server stuff to backend changes, but with how long the laundry list is asking to be ironed out at the moment, one hopes that this downtime is going to be more than just that sort of stability improvement.
Oh boy, what a crazy reply section! Chris P. went straight ahead with: “I just hope they won’t make it worse, as usual. Fix one thing, break another. Typical Ubisoft.” Ouch. Then there is FURIOUSANGER, spelling out a merciless checklist of gripes: “Twitch drops don’t work. Catalyst mask doesn’t work. Getting stuck at 9% when joining a teammate in Brooklyn. Conflict cheaters. Kicked from Descent.” That’s a long list.
To that point, Twitch drops are a mess too. Mike, aka itsGensu, went straight to ask if this maintenance would finally fix the broken Twitch reward system since the event ends today. No word yet, but keep your fingers crossed. Meanwhile, VOODOO BOB has chimed in with “Too bad this will not actually fix anything,” which knowing Ubisoft’s track record, might turn out to be true.
As for players, some are just trying to get through this three-hour blackout. HiredGunSG joked, “How am I supposed to live life with 3 hours of it missing?” while the hopeful ones like ExileMatrix hope the maintenance finally allows them to access Brooklyn DLC they’ve been locked out of for days.
But the responses are definitely not all bad. Some are absolute gems-including the interesting line from TrapeziusJones: “Make sure you guys debrief with Schaeffer first,” without a shred of respect for the game’s lore. Then there’s RealTalk0156 who couldn’t resist asking, “Did Kelso come back? We debriefed with Schaeffer.” Divisive 2’s story may be gritty, but the community’s sense of humor is on another level.
And naturally, no downtime announcement is complete without lamentations over the lack of return of old content. PlasticoMr demanded straight-down-the-line: “Bring back survival,” referring to survival mode from the first game he so dearly loved. And Brandon Dimopoulos hit us hard, admitting he still can’t afford the Brooklyn DLC but has watched the live-action trailers for the 12th time.
So what’s the verdict? Maintenance is happening, bugs run rampant around, and the players’ good faith waver kinda between hope and skepticism. Will Ubisoft actually fixing anything? Now that remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure-The Division 2 players are letting the world know how they feel.
For now, put down Tuesday for downtime, and when the patch notes do drop-actually-almost-on second thought, maybe don’t expect much.
