Another look at Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was taken last week, and it already gained the nickname “goth cousin of Sekiro” among gamers. Combat is described as both satisfying and brutally so, with weapons very much reminiscent of Bloodborne and Sekiro, the game coming to PS5 on July 24. And to be honest, I have to say: the hype is real.

The PlayStation tweet seems to have dissected the combat mechanics while the gamers started drawing comparisons with some of the hardest action RPGs ever made. One user Genotype said in all honesty, “If Sekiro had a goth cousin it’d be this,” and I suppose that’s the most apt description so far. Another comment came in from GG3, “That Sekiro x Bloodborne energy,” and honestly, we feel that. Fast-paced parry-heavy combat mixed with dark atmospheric vibes-and-that is exactly what soulslike fans are looking for.

Then again, it isn’t just the combat that has the community all worked up amid speculation. Logan | AE wondered if the challenge could be on par with Shadow of the Erdtree. Probable about that. Looking at gameplay styles, Wuchang certainly won’t give any advantage away. The Trailer presents some extremely well-paced swordplay, plenty of dodges that seem to be straight from a From Software game, so your enemies are definitely going to put you somewhere between rage-quit and wow at least once.

Well, it is not just about the combos and fighting animations. Some are a bit cautious or somewhat already casting doubts on whether they will not get censored. User Bloody_Roar3 even suggested that to avoid such, “Grabbing the PC version might be the way to go.” Others seem pretty excited about this: Pacman said, “The only game I’m actually looking forward to… we need more soulslikes,” and I totally agree.

There is even some confusion here as to whether it will be on Xbox Game Pass; hence a few are saying that it will be free there. For now, though, PS5 is confirmed, and oof, that trailer really builds hype.

Indeed, the reactions go from hype to skepticism, but it pretty much tells me that this Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is shaping to be an absolute win for hardcore action RPG fans. Whether or not it will stand up to the comparisons to Sekiro and Bloodborne is yet to be seen, but for now, the combat looks tight, the atmosphere is dripping with style, and the challenge looks just right.

At the very least, we are getting another soulslike to nibble on this summer. Fingers crossed for July 24!
